About Us

Our group has been active as a formal student organization at the University of South Florida Tampa Campus since 1975, and we are one of the oldest of USF’s activity organizations. We provide instruction in Aikido, a traditional Japanese martial art that encourages conflict resolution and non-competitiveness.

Our school’s Japanese name is the “kasshin kai” dojo, which means “the people of growth/evolution.” This name was selected by our members to embrace a spirit of personal development and a commitment to lifelong improvement.

Instruction is available to university staff and students, as well as members of the general public. We are affiliated with the Aikido Schools of Ueshiba. Our ranks are recognized by the Aikido World Headquarters in Tokyo, Japan. Hundreds of USF students have trained with us, and to date we have produced several respected black belts.

Our students are also members of the Aikido Chuseikan of Tampa Bay dojo, located in Ybor City.

We meet year-round at the Tampa Campus REC facility (Gym) Room 101; visitors and new students are always welcome.
